My name is Andrew McCracken and I love to wrestle.  I love the work.  I love the competition.  I love the camaraderie and most of all, love the live match.  I am a senior at Kirkwood High School this year looking for an opportunity to continue my wrestling career at the next level.  I am the second of 4 children and I live with my parents and 2 brothers in St. Louis, Missouri.  My older sister is already out of the house going to school in California.
My journey so far as a wrestler could be categorized as an effort to “catch up”.  I didn’t start wrestling until the 7th grade and I stayed active in other sports and activities until the summer after my sophomore year.  I was not having the success I wanted when it came to competing with the kids that had been wrestling since they were very young.  I made the commitment at that time to reprioritize my athletic efforts to pursue wrestling exclusively.
I began wrestling  year around with Purler Wrestling and also started strength training at the Lab Gym.  Purler Wrestling provided me with the wrestling framework I needed to cover the technical aspects of the sport and the practice room with all of the best kids in the area to perfect them.  The Lab Gym is run by a former Olympian who has built a strength training program around the Olympic lifts.  My strength, balance and physical stature has undergone a major transformation.  My hard work was paying off as my junior year wrestling season started.  I was winning matches that I would not have been able to the year before.  Right after Christmas break I suffered an injury that took me out of most of the season.
I have been faithfully back on my routine ever since the doctor cleared me last spring.  I wrapped up my summer with a 1st place finish at the Midwest Nationals.  This is going to be a great senior year as I expect to go deep in the state tournament.
I have several interests academically and will most likely pursue a degree in engineering or education.  I have traveled all over this country and would be comfortable going to a school just about anywhere.
I am a hard worker, teachable and have an insatiable appetite to get better.  I know that I have barely scratched the surface of my potential.  I want to be part of a college program where the wrestlers and coaches share my desire to be the best they can be.
