We currently have several nationally ranked wrestlers in our program at both the high school and age-group level. Generally at tournaments - when the competitive juices are flowing - parents and wrestlers, after seeing our wrestlers win, will approach us and ask for our help. We often hear initially that the wrestler and/or parent will do "whatever it takes" to become that good. Our answer is very specific and always the same. It will never change. Here it is:
- No matter how long you have been wrestling, we would love to help you .
- If you are interested in what we do, you are welcome to attend a complimentary practice, and we would hope that you decide that PWA Rocky is right for you.
- Once you join PWA Rocky, you need to attend practice every single week. We cannot help you if you are not present.
- You will have the best results if you purchase the Foundation Wrestling DVD's. Plain and simple. We send out a notice to wrestlers two days in advance advising what techniques will be covered in practice. We ask that our wrestlers review these techniques on the DVD's (it takes approximately 5 minutes per technique) and show up to practice mentally prepared. This is no different than a teacher asking his student to read the textbook prior to class.
- At our practices, we will cover a specific, targeted area of the Foundation system of wrestling. Each technique will be broken down into steps, and we will practice the techniques again and again until you get it right via hard drilling, live wrestling situations, focused demonstration, etc.
- After practice, we will send you home with a weekly plan specifying exactly what you need to do to commit these techniques to muscle memory.
- The weekly plan will generally prescribe a certain number of repetitions of each technique and sometimes targeted drills. As a parent or wrestler, it is your responsibility to complete these repetitions, either at home or before/after your club or high school practices.
- During your club or high school practices, we cannot emphasize enough that you need to be respectful and follow your coach's practice plan.
- When you have the opportunity to wrestle in live situations, either at practice or local dual meet/tournaments, we emphasize developing your new techniques, as opposed to beating lesser opponents with the same old double leg takedown and achieving a 15-second pin. That is how you get better and that is how you will succeed against higher level opponents.
- We follow this process 52 weeks a year. If you spend an entire year with us, you WILL have the success you are looking for.
* Note: During the summer and fall months, when local clubs do not meet, this program is tapered back to attending practice once a week and getting your reps in.
That's pretty much it. It's the difference between wanting to be and hoping that you will be a high level wrestler. Wanting it means you are willing to do the things necessary to achieve the goal. We have said it many times - if you follow the program partially , you will have partial success - which means you will also experience partial failure. If you are saying that you will do "whatever it takes" to become an elite wrestler - there it is. It's all laid out for you, and we will be with your every step of the way.
