Takedown Machine Training Camps

With such limited numbers of wrestlers allowed each week, it is important to get signed up quickly. Many high school coaches use our camp as their "team" camp and will bring 45+ wrestlers...which will almost fill up an entire camp with one phone call. Each year we have kids that get left out and it is due to these "blocks" of wrestlers that can literally fill up a camp or two in a matter of hours. If you want to attend, it is recommended that you do so months in advance.

We only accept approximately forty-five athletes per week compared to the 400+ wrestlers you will encounter at many college-sponsored camps. Needless to say, your son will get individual attention from Nick and Tony...the kind of hands-on attention your son deserves.

Last year's camp had top wrestlers from as far away as CA, CO, IL, KS, OK, TX, TN, NE, LA, AK, ID, FL and NY. In addition, these camps have become a team camp of sorts for Purler Wrestling Academy. Your son will have access to many of the Nation's top high school and youth wrestlers that are familiar with our system which will accelerate his learning.

Because we accept just 45 or so wrestlers each week....our camp does fill quickly and almost all advertising has been word-of-mouth. I begin getting calls and reserving spots as early as January. Those waiting until the deadline may not get in. You will want to register ASAP if you are serious about getting into the Takedown Machine Drill Camp.

Parents are invited to watch the first and last session, but we can not make over night or daily accommodations. However, there are hotels nearby.

More about TAKEDOWN MACHINE training camps:

One week (4 full days) of intensive training by two of the most technical coaches in America. Nick and Tony Purler will teach your wrestler the nuts and bolts of winning wrestling techniques.

"Tony and I believe that we have developed one of the best training camps in America. Tony and I have spent over 24 years in wrestling and have been members of 3 NCAA Championship wrestling teams while competing for Oklahoma State University. In addition, we have spent many summers in Team USA Training Camps as well as the Olympic Training Center preparing for International competitions. Needless to say, we have been trained by the best coaches in the World and have much to share with your wrestler. As full-time coaches, we have also developed our own methods and system to teaching and training that enable us to help kids by SIMPLIFYING the sport of wrestling. While at our camps and academy, students are taught to focus much of their drill time in ‘core’ areas of wrestling. It is important to understand that MOST points are scored from the same 3 areas. Athletes that heed to this advice will see tremendous improvement in a very short period of time. Our coaching philosophy is to be EFFECTIVE trainers and to teach kids to become EFFECTIVE wrestlers."

Team Camp option:

Many coaches use our summer camp as their team camp.  Unlike other team camps, where you simply get more wrestling matches, our camp offers you the chance to expose your team to a ‘system’ of teaching and drilling and one that you can learn along with the team. Coaches that bring 10 or more wrestlers get free room and board at camp and an opportunity to learn a different way of doing things.  Simply stated, our teams are not losing matches because we do not have enough live wrestling matches!  Our teams are losing because they get 75 front headlocks over the course of the weekend tournament and only scored 9 takedowns!  It is very likely that a competition team camp does very little for your team!!

Technique:

Athletes will be drilled three times a day and taught a high-percentage scoring system developed by the Purler brothers and proven on the Collegiate and International level.

Our offensive scoring system centers around 3 areas:

  • 1. Primary offense
  • 2. Secondary offense
  • 3. Counter-attack offense

Scoring comes from these three areas of offense. To specify, PRIMARY OFFENSE comprises of leg-attacks, SECONDARY OFFENSE amounts to ducks, trips, throw-bys, drags, etc while our COUNTER-ATTACK offense will be based upon scoring from the front-headlock position and capitalizing on the re-shot.

In addition, students will learn that scoring is about attacking your opponent’s wrestling stance and breaking his position. Aggressive wrestling centers around attacking the enemies stance, NOT shooting.

Our PUSH/PULL/HIT/PICK/POST/PASS system will provide the FOUNDATION to our scoring.

Nick and I will hammer home these skills by use of highly organized, intensive drill sessions so that your son leaves our camp understanding the art of the takedown.

Furthermore, the only way to become a great technician is through very focused drill sessions. Ever notice why your son knows a lot of moves but doesn’t hit the techniques in live competition? Your wrestler will learn an approach to training that will solve this problem. We do not care if you son knows the move, we care if he muscles know the move. This is how we are able to go into ‘auto-pilot’ mode on the mat and hit without warning. We have been trained by the best in the World and will teach your son to train like a CHAMPION.

Location:

The training camps will be held at Cuivre River State Park and held at Camp Cuivre. Athletes will be housed in air-conditioned bunkhouses, fed in the cafeteria, and trained in the rec-hall.Days will be filled with intensive drill sessions, and other rec-time activities.

In addition to training wrestlers from all over the US, this camp has served as a team camp for Purler Wrestling Academy...one of America’s premiere wrestling programs. Your son will have plenty of training partners that understand the system. This will accelerate their learning.
